Saedah Samat-Alkaff

Saedah Samat-Alkaff is best known for being the music arranger and composer for Makanplace by ACT 3, the first Singaporean musical in 1988. 

Saedah started learning the Piano and Electone when she was 8 years old. She graduated with a music diploma from the Royal School of Music as well as a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education with Psychology from The Singapore University of Social Sciences. Besides teaching at Yamaha Music School for the past 35 years, Saedah is also an arranger, composer and music director for school groups and theatre companies like  The Necessary Stage , Panggung Arts, Teater Kami, Peranakan Siblings, Republic Polytechnic, Tanjong Katong Primary School,  Fuchun Primary School,  Holy Innocents Secondary School, Balestier Primary School  and Anggerik Temasek Bangsawan troupe. She also teaches at Tanglin APSN School. Her composition was featured as the finale song for National Day in 1997. 

Saedah has also composed and arranged the theme and underscore music for several short films and documentaries for NYU Tisch Asia as well as the United Nations. She has performed at Heart and Soul, Maya Gallery’s 10 Anniversary exhibition (2022), and Idris Ali’s Hitam Putih solo exhibition (2023), also at the gallery.
