Liquid Light: An Exhibition of Contemporary Watercolours

July 18-28, 2018

Maya Gallery | Liquid Light: An Exhibition of contemporary Watercolours

SINGAPORE – This July, an exhibition of contemporary watercolours to challenge preconceptions of the medium, opens on Wednesday, 18th July 2018, at Maya Gallery. Liquid Light celebrates the range of ways watercolour has been used – from nature to landscapes and abstraction.

Given the perception of watercolour as a medium that is technically challenging and difficult to master, as well as the rapid development in contemporary art, it is no surprise that some of the participating artists use watercolour in rather unorthodox ways that best suit their ideas and working method.

Featuring a group of diverse artists from Singapore and overseas selected from an Open Call in February, Liquid Light also offers a chance to see rarely displayed early works, by the late Wandly Yazid, a legendary music composer, arranger, musician and artist, as well as semi-abstract works by 74-year-old Idris Mohamed Ali, Singapore’s pioneer Malay watercolour artist.

The exhibition presents a fresh assessment of fresh and wide-ranging ways artists are expressing this medium characterized by its fluidity and transparency.
